This year’s event had over 100 people attend and earn their elimination of bias credit. The program featured two
panels and a keynote address.
Our first panel consisted of general counsel and in-house
insurance attorneys Ann Anaya (Sr. Litigation Counsel
- 3M), Amanda Daeges (VP & Sr. Counsel - US Bank), Angelita
Hernandez (Sr. Counsel - Target Corp.), Peter Glass
(Assistant General Counsel - Xcel Energy), and Kenya
Bodden (Progressive Insurance), who discussed the industry
expectations for increasing diversity and why diversity
matters to clients.
Our second panel consisted of several judges and educators
who discussed institutional barriers to diversity in
the legal profession and the diversity pipeline. The panel
consisted of the honorable Michael Browne (Hennepin
County District Court), the honorable Kevin Ross (Minnesota
Court of Appeals), Val Jensen (Twin Cities Diversity
in Practice), and Ann Moelk (Assistant Dean for Student
Affairs & Student Life at Mitchell-Hamline School of Law).
Our keynote speaker was Michelle Miller, Vice President
and Chief Counsel, Employment Law at Medtronic, Inc.
She discussed how to move beyond mentoring to sponsorship
and also highlighted some law firm/legal employer
diversity initiatives and efforts that work.
