Joan Bibelhausen, JD Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers


Christopher E. Celichowski, O’Mera, Leer, Wagner & Kohl, P.A.

Christopher Celichowski represents clients in a variety of matters involving Minnesota workers’ compensation, subrogation, employer liability, general liability, dram shop, employment, and OSHA defense matters. Mr. Celichowski graduated summa cum laude from the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point in 1984. He received his law degree from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1988. At the University, he served as a managing editor for the Journal of Law & Inequality, was on the Dean’s List, and earned the William O. Douglas Award for excellence in Constitutional Law. Admitted to practice in Minnesota state and federal courts, he is a member of the American Bar Association, the Minnesota State Bar Association, the Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association and the Hennepin County Bar Association. He lectures on these topics and has published articles in the University of Minnesota’s Journal of Law & Inequality and in the William Mitchell Law Review.

Morgan A. Godfrey, O’Mera, Leer, Wagner & Kohl, P.A.

Morgan A. Godfrey is an attorney with more than 26 years’ experience.  He is a partner with the Minneapolis law firm of O’Meara, Leer, Wagner & Kohl, P.A., where he chairs the firm’s Employment Law and Medicare Secondary Payer Compliance sections.  Mr. Godfrey is licensed in Minnesota and Wisconsin.  He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts in these states, as well as The Seventh and Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.  He is a frequent lecturer and author on a variety of legal topics.  He has represented defendants and insurers in civil litigation in state and federal courts involving a variety of personal injury matters, ranging from wrongful death actions, to those involving severe traumatic brain injury, stroke, and claims involving infusion of pharmaceutical products resulting in injury and long-term care.  

Michael D. Hutchens, Meagher & Geer, PLLP

Michael focuses his practice on complex civil litigation involving products liability, construction liability, and defense of pharmaceuticals and medical devices.  He has handled more than 90 jury trials.  Michael recently won a successful jury verdict in litigation defending the designer of a mission critical data center.  Millions of dollars were at stake.  Michael is recognized as a Minnesota Super Lawyer in the area of construction litigation and has been selected as a Leading Attorney in a statewide survey conducted by American Research Corporation.  He is also listed in The Best Lawyers in America.

Judge Eric Hylden, Minnesota State District Court, St. Louis County

Judge Hylden was appointed to the bench in 2007 by Governor Tim Pawlenty after practice at Reyelts, Leighton, Bateman, and Hylden where he began his practice in 1987.  He graduated from Holy Angels and subsequently graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Minnesota Duluth and Cum Laude from the University of Minnesota School of Law in 1987.  During nearly twenty years of private practice, Judge Hylden represented clients in nearly all aspects of civil litigation.  A significant percentage of his work was in complex litigation, such as professional malpractice, construction cases, and product liability.  He tried approximately 30 cases to a verdict and was recognized as a ‘Super Lawyer’ by the magazine Minnesota Law and Politics from 2000-2006.

Paul Jepsen, DecisionQuest

Paul has developed trial strategies from a social science perspective for over thirty years. He has provided jury research and trial consulting on several thousand civil and criminal cases in both State and Federal courts with an expertise that includes overall trial strategy, opening statements, witness evaluation and preparation, demonstrative exhibits, voir dire, verdict and damages risk analysis, and juror questionnaires. Paul is also a published author and frequent speaker on these issues.  Paul has interviewed tens of thousands of jurors and prospective jurors, and has conducted numerous juror opinion and venue surveys. He has been qualified in Federal Court as an expert regarding jury selection, communication, and persuasion and have had affidavits accepted for use by the Court, in federal and state courts throughout the country.

Cecilie M. Loidolt, Bassford Remmele, P.A.

Cecilie Loidolt is a trial lawyer with almost 25 years of experience defending the rights of doctors, nurses, and medical providers at trial.  She has tried over 45 cases to a jury; many of these involving high-damages exposure.  She has tried nine cases involving claims of birth injury or infant death.  Recently, one such case involved a life care plan seeking 33 million dollars.  The jury returned a verdict for the defendant after a four-week trial and 90 minutes of deliberations.  Cecilie is a 2012 recipient of the Minnesota Lawyer of the Year award, presented by Minnesota Lawyer, in part for her successful defense of medical providers in a wrongful death claim involving emergency room care provided to an eight-month old baby whose parents had not had him properly vaccinated.  Ms. Loidolt is regularly selected to Super Lawyers and The Best Lawyers in America.  In 2013, Super Lawyers Magazine featured her in the article, "The Gunslinger, the Bulldog or the Pit Bull," which highlighted Cecilie’s dedication, loyalty to her clients, and determination in obtaining justice for her clients.

Andre Loyd, Ph.D., Biomechanical Engineer, Crane Engineering

Andre has a Ph.D. and Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Duke University, and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, from Clemson University, Clemson, S.C.  He is an experienced biomechanical and accident reconstruction specialist, providing reconstructions for pedestrian injuries, slip and fall incidents, industrial and vehicular accidents. Additionally, he provides injury analysis of helmeted/non-helmeted impacts. His accident reconstruction abilities include high-speed and minor impacts, motorcycle accidents and vehicle visibility analysis. Dr. Loyd has particular expertise in pediatric injury, head injury and neck injury.

Before joining Crane Engineering, Andre worked as a Biomechanical and Accident Reconstructionist at S-E-A Limited in Houston, Texas. Andre earned a doctorate from the Injury Biomechanics Laboratory at Duke University and completed a post-doctorate fellowship through the Orthopedic Biomechanics Laboratory at the Mayo Clinic.  He conducted research on pediatric and adult head injury, neck laceration, helmets, neck injury, bone fracture and crash dummy accuracy.  He also published in such journals as the Stapp Car Crash Journal, Journal of Biomechanics, Accident Analysis and Prevention, Forensic Science International and Traffic Injury Prevention. 

Thomas E. Marshall, Engelmeier & Umanah, P.A.

Tom Marshall practices in workplace law and is a past president of the Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association and current Co-chair of the Law Improvement Committee,  an MSBA certified Labor and Employment Law Specialist, a Minnesota Lawyer Attorney of the Year in 2015 (with the entire Ewald v. Norway trial team), and has been frequently recognized as an employment Super Lawyer.

Amy Mass, The Hanover Insurance Group

Amy Mass is currently senior counsel for The Hanover Insurance Group in the Office of General Counsel in Howell, Michigan. There, she is responsible for property and casualty legal support, government affairs, and regulatory matters for the Midwest Region. Before moving into her current role, she was based in Columbus, Ohio, and served The Hanover as the national counsel for the Schools Program, managing attorney for Ohio and Indiana, senior trial attorney and trial attorney. Ms. Mass is a frequent lecturer in the areas of ADR, negotiation and mediation for organizations including DRI, the ABA, the Ohio State Bar Association, and the Ohio Association of Civil Trial Attorneys. Currently, she serves as the chair of the DRI Corporate Counsel Committee, and sits on the board of directors of the Ohio Association of Civil Trial Attorneys.

Ben McAninch, Blethen, Gage & Krause, PLLP

Ben graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law in 2002 and is now a partner with the law firm of Blethen, Gage & Krause, PLLP in Mankato. He has been recognized as a Superlawyer by Minnesota Law & Politics every year since 2014 and currently practices in the areas of motor vehicle accident, premises liability, professional liability, construction defect, agricultural litigation and estate and probate litigation.  Ben currently serves Secretary of the Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association.

Jana O’Leary Sullivan, League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust

Jana O’Leary Sullivan is a staff attorney for the League of Minnesota Cities.  Jana represents cities in employment and other matters before state and federal courts and agencies.  She has defended claims alleging discrimination, harassment, retaliation, violations of the data practices act, and violations of other state and federal laws.  Jana also regularly consults with cities on employment and other matters, provides loss control advice, and presents to cities as well as others on employment and municipal law.

Jeannie Provo-Petersen, Provo-Petersen & Associates

Jeannie owns and operates Provo-Petersen & Associates PA, practicing primarily in the areas of insurance and civil litigation defense with an emphasis on transportation/automobile insurance related issues, and commercial insurance law including liability, coverage, uninsured and underinsured motorist, wrongful death, no-fault, liquor liability and general casualty law, along with governmental entities on matters involving transportation and law enforcement.  Jeannie has been editor and contributing author to the Minnesota Motor Vehicle Insurance Manual, is a frequent presenter at various CLEs, and annually co-chairs the No-Fault, Uninsured, and Underinsured Motorist and Bodily Injury Symposium for Minnesota CLE.  She is also a contributing author to the Minnesota Motor Vehicle Deskbook for Minnesota CLE written and edited by Michael Fargione.  She has been regularly nominated as a Super Lawyer, and before that was a "Rising Star". Jeannie graduated from William Mitchell College of Law., and obtained her undergraduate degree at Hamline University majoring in political science and legal studies.

Paul J. Rocheford, Arthur, Chapman, Kettering, Smetak & Pikala, P.A.

Paul Rocheford is in his 29th year of practice. He has been at the Arthur Chapman firm since 1988 and was a managing partner for 15 years. Paul has vast jury trial experience in Minnesota and Wisconsin. He currently focuses much of his practice on ADR including mediation and binding arbitration.

Brendan Tupa, Law Offices of Thomas P. Stilp

Brendan is a field counsel attorney at the Law Offices of Thomas P. Stilp in Minneapolis.  Currently, Brendan litigates issues relating to personal injuries arising from motor vehicle accidents, slips and falls, and explosions.  Brendan received his Juris Doctorate from William Mitchell College of Law, and his Bachelor of Arts degree from Jamestown College. Brendan also serves on the MDLA Board of Directors.
